Maybe you have an unquenchable desire for tortilla chips. If that is the case, you may really be interested in finding a recipe for baked tortilla chips that you can make yourself that will save you so much in the way of fat and calories in comparison to regular tortilla chips. These baked tortilla chips are pretty easy to make and turn out quite crispy and delicious. They can satisfy that craving for crunchy salty chips but are far easier to make—and create much less of a mess of your kitchen.

The nice thing about this recipe is that you are not totally starting from scratch. The chips are made from pre-made corn tortillas, so all you have to do is cut the corn tortilla into triangles to make the chips. This is also an effective way to make tortilla chips when you find that you've run out of them, but happen to have an abundance of corn tortillas (or flour, in a pinch—this recipe will work with flour ones, too, but it's just not as tasty.)

We have found a few time-saving tricks along the way that make the job of making these chips just a little bit easier. Using a pizza cutter to slice the corn tortillas into triangles seems to be the most efficient way of making beautiful, uniform tortilla chips.

Then, once the chips are made, serve the chips up with your choice of salsa or guacamole, homemade or store-bought. Or simply eat them by themselves for a salty and crispy snack.

Ingredients

  • 4 (7-inch) corn tortillas

  • Cooking spray, butter-flavored

  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

Steps to Make It

  2. Preheat the oven to 400 F. Stack the corn tortillas and cut into 8 triangles using a sharp knife or a pizza cutter. Start by cutting the tortilla stack in half, then in half again to create 4 triangles.

  4. Next, place the tortilla triangles in a single layer on a large baking sheet that has been coated with a light layer of cooking spray.

  5. For extra flavor and crispiness, spray each triangle with just a bit of cooking spray, and sprinkle the salt evenly over all pieces.
